GM Names Whitacre New CEO; Henderson Resigns
General Motors Chairman Ed Whitacre has been named the interim Chief Executive Officer of General Motors today, just after Fritz Henderson resigned from the company today.
In a statement, Whitacre said the company’s board of directors accepted Henderson’s resignation. President Barack Obama’s Auto Task Forced had chosen Henderson to take on the CEO role earlier this year after firing former CEO Rick Wagoner.
“All involved agree that changes needed to be made,” Whitacre stated.
A search for a new CEO began immediately.
Whitacre said he would begin working at the company’s Detroit headquarters starting on a daily basis.
