GM Recalls Over 740,000 SUVs For Excessively Bright Headlights, Reduces Visibility For Other Drivers
General Motors is recalling certain Terrain SUVs due to overly bright headlights that can possibly cause a glare for other drivers.
“A reflection caused by the headlight housings may illuminate areas above the vehicle and outside of the driver's view with excessively bright light,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
The overly bright exterior lighting is cable of “reducing their visibility and increasing the risk of a crash,” it added.
GM had originally requested the recall be ignored because there were not enough complaints. The recall was finalized on Tuesday by U.S. safety regulators.
The recall includes 740,581 GMC Terrain SUVs for models from 2010 to 2017.
Spokesman Dan Flores said in a statement that the company is working on a solution for the lights, but that nothing is finalized yet.
GM expects to notify owners by letter starting April 23. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222363740.
