"God of War Ragnarök" is getting a new set of attacks when the game officially comes out in a few months.
The lead combat designers of the game, Denny Yeh and Mihir Sheth sat with Game Informer and shed light on Kratos and Arteus' new combat skills.
Sheth and Yeh revealed how they changed the way the Triangle button for the sequel of the 2018 "God of War." In the previous game, players only recalled the axe when they pressed the Triangle button.
However, nothing happened if the player already had an axe. This time, the designers decided to do something different with the Triangle button.
They introduced a whole new set of moves and these special attacks are called Weapon Signature Moves. If the player is wielding the Leviathan Axe, then Kratos can infuse the sword with ice and the elemental move will be called Frost Awaken.
Meanwhile, if it is the Blade of Chaos then the elemental move, Whiplash, will inflict major damage by burning the opponents.
The lead combat designers also told the outlet about the revamped shields named Dauntless and Stonewall Shields.
Yeh advised the players to improvise their gameplay according to the needs of that particular stage. Dauntless Shield is meant for immediate reactions while the Stonewall Shield is for slow-moving matches.
However, the designers warned that the Stonewall Shield becomes quite unstable as it takes more damage.
The designers also confirmed that aggression from enemies and their lethality will reach new levels as players move to greater difficulties.
"Fimbulwinter is well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world. Along the way, they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. The threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer. Kratos and Atreus must choose between their own safety and the safety of the realms.," read the official synopsis of "God of War Ragnarök."
The Norse saga continues when Atreus and Kratos return on Nov. 9 in "God of War Ragnarök" developed by Santa Monica Studio. The game will be out on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
