  • "God of War Ragnarok" was first teased in 2020
  • Sony has not yet revealed the official name of the upcoming sequel
  • "God Of War Ragnarok" will be a cross-gen title, according to rumors

David Jaffe, video game designer and former "God of War" and "God of War 2" director, shared his opinion about the game's upcoming sequel. On his personal Twitch account, Jaffe shared that "God of War Ragnarok" would end up being a cross-gen title. When asked about the heavily speculated title, he answered, "I'm sure the next God of War will be on PS4, PS5. Of course, it will be."

Jaffe also expressed concern about the possible release date of "God Of War Ragnarok." The sequel is anticipated to launch sometime in 2021. However, seeing what happened to "Cyberpunk 2077," including its heavily criticized performance on the PlayStation 4, it could be delayed until 2022.

The team behind "Ragnarok" might request more time to make sure that the game launches with the best quality so as not to disappoint fans. The release is still up to Sony Interactive Entertainment, however. SIE President Jim Ryan could launch the "God of War Ragnarok" on its initial timeline and hope that it would be good or wait for a later release that could extend until 2022.

The upcoming sequel was confirmed to release on Sony's PS5. While there has not been official confirmation that the game would also release on PlayStation 4, industry observers speculate that a dual generation release is highly likely. Sony assured fans that it would launch exclusive titles on both PS5 and PS4 throughout 2021.

The same sentiment could be inferred from a previous statement shared by Hideaki Nishino, SIE's head of platform programming. According to him, "for the time being, development for the PS4 is also necessary." The company would surely take advantage of the massive user base of the PS4 and would consider the transition from the old console to the new generation.

Jim Ryan was also asked by Telegraph in November 2020 if "God of War Ragnarok" would be a cross-gen title. Ryan refused to answer the question but said, "We’ve got a community of PS4 gamers 100 million-strong. It would be wrong to walk away from those people too early."
