“The Godfather” is regarded as one of the greatest films to be ever made in the history of cinema even after four decades of its release. But not many know what took place behind the scenes while making the iconic film starring Marlon Brando in the lead role.
But now, it seems Paramount Pictures is set to treat fans with some behind-the-scenes action from the movie directed by Francis Coppola.
A drama series on the making of “The Godfather” is set to air on CBS’s new streaming service called Paramount+, The Hollywood Reporter reported. The series, entitled “The Offer,” will be a 10-episode scripted limited series about the experience of Al Ruddy while producing the classic film.
The series will be produced by Ruddy and Michael Tolkin. Meanwhile, the series will be penned by Leslie Greif who is known for directing and producing various documentaries like “Expedition Unknown: Egypt Live,” “Dead of Winter: The Donner Party,” and “Steve McQueen: The Essence of Cool.”
Speaking ahead of the launch of the streaming platform, Bob Bakish, CEO of ViacomCBS, noted that Paramount+ will have an amazing collection of content for everyone to enjoy.
“With Paramount+, we’re excited to establish one global streaming brand in the broad-pay segment that will draw on the sheer breadth and depth of the ViacomCBS portfolio to offer an extraordinary collection of content for everyone to enjoy,” THR quoted Bakish, as saying.
Apart from the series, the streaming service will also feature programs like “The Real Criminal Minds,” “The Game,” and “Behind The Music.”
Released in 1972, “The Godfather” was based on Mario Puzo’s best-selling novel of the same name. Apart from Brando, the cast included some of the most stellar actors like Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, Sterling Hayden, James Caan, and John Marley.
The movie chronicles the journey of the aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty named Don Vito Corleone (played by Brando) who transfers the control of his empire to his reluctant son Michael Corleone (portrayed by Pacino).
The movie was a huge success and earned more than $243 million globally. The film garnered universal acclaim and currently possesses a rating of 9.1 on IMDb, making it the second highest-rated movie of all time on the platform. The only movie to be ahead of the film is Frank Darabont’s epic movie “The Shawshank Redemption.”
The movie won 3 Oscars, including Best Picture. Brando’s impeccable acting skills won him the Best Actor trophy while Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola received awards in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.
