Kate McClure, 27, who was helped by a homeless Marine named Johnny Bobbitt Jr. last month when her car ran out of gas while driving towards Philadelphia, raised more than $100,000 for the Marine through a GoFundMe donation page.

According to a report by the Philadelphia Inquirer, McClure was driving on the southbound I-95 road which goes towards Philadelphia to meet a friend when her car started to choke because it ran out of gas. She pulled on to a nearby exit ramp and just made it to the bottom. It was around 11 p.m. local time, it was dark and she was reportedly alone.

According to the report McClure, who works for the New Jersey Department of Transportation, said, "My heart was beating out of my chest. I didn’t know what the heck to do."

She then called up her boyfriend, Mark D’Amico, 38, who told her that he will come to get her. At that moment, Bobbitt Jr. came towards her and told her to sit inside the car and lock the doors and said that he will be spending his last $20 to buy gas for her, from a few blocks away.

"He said, 'I’ll be back. Trust me,'" McClure said.

According to D’Amico, McClure called after ten minutes of that and said "the guy brought her gas."

Bobbitt Jr., reportedly was a homeless man who was often seen reading a book while sitting on the guard rail at the exit ramp.

McClure did not have the money to pay back Bobbitt Jr. and she promised him that she will come back and pay him. Bobbitt Jr. trusted her. The very next day, both McClure and D’Amico drove to the same area and thanked Bobbitt Jr. again and repaid the money.

According to the report, the couple learned that Bobbitt Jr. was a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina. He held the position of an ammunition technician in the Marines. A friend of Bobbitt Jr. from North Carolina, who didn’t want to be named said that Bobbitt Jr. had a "good heart" and was a skillful paramedic who also had the skills to become a doctor. However, the friend said the Marine's life took a bad turn due to drugs and financial issues. According to public records, Bobbitt Jr. was also involved with the criminal justice system in North Carolina.

Reportedly, the couple gave Bobbitt Jr., D’Amico’s old winter clothes, a black knit cap and gloves. They also bought tube socks, granola bars, and basic toiletries from a Target shop for him.

According to McClure the idea for the GoFundMe donation page came when she and her boyfriend considered the possibility of changing Bobbitt Jr.'s life. She created the GoFundMe page on Nov. 10, where she set a donation limit of $10,000. The amount exceeded that limit within 12 days as donations exceeded $32,000.

As of this moment, the amount donated for Bobbitt Jr. through the GoFundMe portal stands at a massive $112,750.

In the donation page McClure wrote, "I wish that I could do more for this selfless man, who went out of his way just to help me that day. He is such a great guy, and talking to him each time I see him makes me want to help him more and more."

She said that with the donations, she plans to help him pay rent for an apartment, get a vehicle and also help him to cover four to six months worth of expenses; things which will help Bobbitt Jr. get his life back on track.

"Truly believe that all Johnny needs is one little break. Hopefully with your help I can be the one to give it to him," she wrote.
