KEY POINTS

  • "Sea of Thieves" adds some Gold Hoarders quests and dogs you can make as pets in next week's "Vaults of the Ancients" update
  • The game has risen in popularity in anticipation of "Sea of Thieves" arriving on Steam
  • Ways for developers to interact with players called "Mysterious Notes" are also being added as part of the update

When “Sea of Thieves” gets the “Vaults of the Ancients” content update next week, it will also introduce a couple of interesting additions.

New Gold Hoarders quests are coming to the game, as well as dogs that you can pet. Since its somewhat rocky launch, ScreenRant notes that “Sea of Thieves” has received continual updates to help it gain an impressive audience of 15 million players.

With interest in the title increasing as it is set to be released on Steam, “Sea of Thieves” remains popular for gamers on Xbox and Windows 10 due to its cross-play capabilities. Unfortunately for fans of Valve’s digital service though, they were not part of that same ecosystem.

The Steam version of “Sea of Thieves” will be kept up to date to match the release schedule of new content - and there is actually plenty of new stuff coming next week. “Sea of Thieves” developer Rare offered a taste of exactly what people can expect to be added to the title.

“Vaults of the Ancients” will be released on Sept. 9 and Rare’s video presentation showed a first look at a new voyage for the Gold Hoarders. Mysterious Notes that players will begin to encounter were also presented.

According to the in-game lore, Gold Hoarders decided to put their riches inside cave vaults scattered across the world of “Sea of Thieves.” With the treasure caves being risky, players will have to go on quests to retrieve keys to open the gold depositories. Since the characters are pirates at their core, they can choose to keep the keys for themselves rather than just returning them to Gold Hoarders as the quest directs.

The previously mentioned Mysterious Notes are basically subtle ways for the developers to interact with the players. These notes will be automatically given out to pirates at the beginning of each session, containing all the important information about any new events happening in “Sea of Thieves.”

New content for any game is always exciting but the “Vaults of the Ancients” update also brings with it some so-called quality-of-life features. One of these is the Slimline island banner, which basically keeps characters’ ammo and health displayed at all times rather than them being hidden in certain situations. An option to disable this heads-up display element completely has also been added.
