Golden Globe Awards 2017 Predictions: Will ‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Lena Headey Win Big?

Lena Headey is among those nominated at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards. Fans are crossing their fingers for the “Game of Thrones” actress, but will she win?

Headey, who plays the dubious Cersei Lannister on the HBO original series, is nominated for best supporting actress in a series, miniseries or TV movie. She’s up against Chrissy Metz and Mandy Moore for their respective roles as Kate and Rebecca on NBC’s “This is Us,” and Thandie Newton, who plays Maeve on “Westworld.”

While each of the ladies represented in this category delivered phenomenal performances, only one can win. Headey’s character stole the show in the end of “Game of Thrones” Season 6 by proving just how evil she truly is. Still, many believe Newton will pull ahead just slightly in the race for the Golden Globe, bringing home the statuette. Even author George R.R. Martin has praised the show, telling blog readers that the first season of “Westworld” was better than Season 6 of “Game of Thrones.”

Headey is the only “Game of Thrones” star nominated for an award. The show as a whole, however, is up for best TV series (drama). It is expected to be beat out in that category by “This is Us.” Other series recognized in the category include “The Crown,” “Stranger Things” and “Westworld.”

The show and it’s cast have been nominated several times before. In 2012, the same year HBO debuted “Game of Thrones,” Peter Dinklage was nominated for best supporting actor in a drama. He won against Paul Giamatti for “Too Big to Fail,” Guy Pearce for “Mildred Pierce,” and Tim Robbins for his role in “Cinema Verite.” The show was nominated for best drama series in 2012, 2015 and 2016. It has never won.
