Golden Globes: Zooey Deschanel Nominated for Best Actress for ‘New Girl’
New Girl has been nominated for two Golden Globes, including best comedy and best actress. Hipster sweetheart Zooey Deschanel, the star of the Fox comedy show, is nominated for the best actress award.
The show tells the story of Deschanel's character, Jess, who moves in with three guys after an upsetting break-up with her live-in boyfriend.
The Los Angeles Times called Deschanel on her cell phone to discuss the show's Golden Globe nominations.
The fact that people like it and it's getting these nominations, it's like ... like, cake and ice cream, Deschanel said. I've been working a really long time as an actress -- I know how special and rare it is to get recognized like this.
The 31-year old actress says news of the Golden Globe nominations would leave Jess flustered.
She would totally trip and fall and walk into a wall, she said. I know that because she's like me and that's sort of what I did. We worked a really long day yesterday so I was so tired this morning. I accidentally punched my wrist into a wall. I tend to walk into things when I'm tired I forget where my body ends and the world begins.
Liz Meriwether, the 30-year-old creator and writer of the show, was just as surprised and excited as Deschanel.
It's just so exciting to be recognized for something that you love so much, Meriwether told the Hollywood Reporter. It just feels like a great hug.
New Girl is the only new television show to be nominated for an award.
