‘The Good Place’ Season 2 Finale Teased By Newcomer Luke Guldan
“The Good Place” is back to its delightfully evil antics. After ending last year’s finale with a show-stopping twist -- revealing that [spoiler alert] the afterlife Kristen Bell’s Eleanor Shellstrop was in was actually The Bad Place -- the NBC series picked up right where it left off during last week’s two-part fall premiere.
Ahead of the release of episode 3 on Thursday, actor Luke Guldan, who plays Bell’s new on-screen soulmate Chris Baker, a fitness-obsessed former mailman, dished to International Business Times what fans can expect from this year’s incarnation of the inventive dramedy.
Find out what Guldan teased The Good Place ruler Michael (Ted Danson) has in store for Eleanor, Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Tahani (Jameel a Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) this time around.
International Business Times: “The Good Place” Season 1 ended with such a twist. How can Season 2 possibly top that?
Luke Guldan: It starts right where it left off -- so high stakes right from the beginning for Michael to succeed and keeping up with the illusion of The Good Place.
IBT: At the end of last season your character was introduced as Eleanor’s new soulmate. What is it like playing Kristen Bell’s onscreen partner?
Luke: Amazing! She’s hilarious and so much fun to work with.
IBT: In what ways do you and Bell connect off-camera?
Luke: I think primarily through a mutual love of Ted Danson.
IBT: When viewers first met your character Chris, he made it clear his priority rests with working out. Can we expect some major laughs from him this season?
Luke: Working out is serious business -- and I hope so!
IBT: Chidi was Eleanor’s original soulmate and helped her become a good person. Will Chris do the same or is it safe to say he’s in on Michael’s scheme to keep her in the dark?
Luke: I guess it’s up to interpretation at this point. You’ll have to wait and [see] this week’s episode.
IBT: Bell has teased that Season 2 is “totally different.” What differences can viewers expect and what scene or episode are you most excited for viewers to see?
Luke: I haven’t seen the entire season yet but I heard some great stuff about this year’s season finale too!
IBT: If you had to be sorted into The Good Place or The Bad Place, how do you think you would do?
Luke: It seems there is a gym in The Good Place so I think I’d be alright.
Other than “The Good Place,” Guldan also has several other projects in the works. The West Coast premiere of his film “Rockaway” will take place at the Catalina Film Festival on Saturday and he can also be seen in “ADDicted,” a film based on true events about ADD, which premieres on Amazon Prime in December.
Guldan’s projects “The Broken Ones,” which follows a family affected by the World Trade Center attacks 10 years later, and “FLUIDITY,” a story of millennials New York City residents who sexual lives intersect, are both in post-production.
“The Good Place” airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. EDT on NBC. Watch two sneak peeks of episode 3 here.
