Google Camera 7.2 With Astrophotography Now Available To Older Pixel Devices
Google Pixel 4 owners have been enjoying Google Camera version 7.2 for the past weeks. But, those with older Pixel devices were left behind using version 6.3 of the camera app. Several sites are now reporting that both Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 2 are now getting the latest Camera 7.2 through Google Play Store.
The Google Camera app version 7.2 was first released on Nov. 5 and was initially available to Google Pixel 4 only. Now, the latest app version is rolling out on all Pixel devices. The release notes include the following:
Added dual exposure controls to adjust brightness and HDR of your photo (Pixel 4).
Added Astrophotography to Night Sight to allow you to take a picture of the Milky Way with one tap (Pixel 3, 3a, and 4).
Added Frequent Faces to help you capture Top Shot photos where the people you photograph most are smiling and not blinking (Pixel 4).
Added Touch and hold on the shutter button to capture Top Shot photos in the default camera mode (Pixel 2, 3, 3a, and 4).
Google Camera 7.0 introduced a new UI that positioned the mode switcher to the bottom part of the screen and replaced top bar controls with a panel. It also made the sheet capable of sliding down or being tapped open and houses settings. This latest design optimizes the live viewfinder.
Other tweaks include exposure sliders, visually redesigned zoom, explanations for every Timelapse increment, and image ratio settings in the main UI. The update also allows the viewfinder level to account for Framing and tilting hints. Meanwhile, the Camera 7.1 update is the version that introduced Social Share to Google Pixel 4.
This convenient shortcut enables users to swipe up on the preview of the last shot taken and easily share it from the viewfinder. Additionally, it introduced the convenient ability to press and hold on the shutter button while in the Camera mode to record a video. The latest update, which is the Google Camera 7.2 introduces the Astrophotography mode for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a.
Just like in Google Pixel 4, users of older Pixel devices can now take shots of the pitch-black sky, which is part of the Night Sight. The device will instantly recognize whenever the user is taking dark shots. Users must make sure that their Pixel devices are running on Android 10 to be able to install the latest Camera 7.2 update on their devices.
