Google Daydream Gets 'Eclipse: Edge Of Light' As Exclusive Game
Google’s virtual reality platform for Android, Daydream, is getting its first exclusive game called “Eclipse: Edge of Light.” The game was originally meant for the PlayStation VR, but now it looks like it’s only heading to Daydream.
Developed by White Elk Studios, “Eclipse: Edge of Light” is a first-person, sci-fi exploration game that’s set on a sentient planet with a dark past. Players will start the game as a character that wakes up after crashing into the said planet.
“Designed for VR, you play the game from inside a space suit that is equipped with advanced technologies,” White Elf Studios founder Jonathan Hawkins explained. “It allows you to survive the planet’s harsh landscapes and discover its past.”
The game was first announced back in 2015 and was supposed to launch for the PlayStation VR. At the time, “Eclipse” was just its working title. A demo for the game was also made available during Sony’s PlayStation Experience in December 2015.
Earlier today, White Elk released the game’s first trailer and it surprisingly now carried the “Only on Daydream” banner, according to UploadVR.
The trailer mainly focused on the VR environments that players will have to go through. There are also a couple of quick shots of actual gameplay as well as gorgeous looking cutscenes.
“You find a supernatural relic, the Artifact. This device allows you to control elements of the natural world and interact with the ancient technology,” the developer explained on its website. “It is constructed of different fragments, each giving you new powers to control the physical world, on an ever increasing scale. Your goal is to collect these fragments, uncover the mysteries of the past, and escape the planet.”
White Elk hasn’t given an explanation as to why “Eclipse: Edge of Light” will no longer be heading to the PlayStation VR. It’s possible that the game might simply be released for Google Daydream first, and then on the PSVR at a later time.
Although there isn‘t a specific release date yet, it looks like it’s going to be released soon.
