Google Pixel 2: Launch Of 3 Devices In 2017 Confirmed By Android Open Source Project
Ever since the first Nexus device was launched in 2010, Google has followed the tradition of launching its flagship devices every year. But it achieved unprecedented success with its launch of Pixel devices in 2016.
It seems that the company might cash in on that success by launching three devices in the Pixel series this year. The company has been launching two flagship smartphones for the past couple of years, just like rivals Apple and Samsung, both of which launch a large and a regular size flagship device every year.
Google’s mobile operating system’s website, Android Open Source Project (AOSP), revealed new details about Google’s flagship smartphones Monday. Source code on the website revealed three codenames — “Walleye,” “Muskie” and “Taimen.” These names emerged in March in a Droid Life Report, which was the first indication of the existence of a third Google device for 2017.

Additional information uncovered in AOSP revealed that all three smartphones will come equipped with 10nm processor technology-based Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processors.

While Google has confirmed the existence of a Pixel device for 2017, the company hasn’t indicated how many devices it would launch. Since the Pixel series replaced the Nexus series, which had not only smartphones but also tablets, chances are the third device could be a tablet instead of a third smartphone.
The codenames also hint at a tablet. The Google Nexus 6P, the company’s 6-inch device, launched in 2015 and made by Motorola, was codenamed "Shamu" after a species of killer whale known for its large size. Similarly, the codename "Taimen" is actually derived from a large species of salmon, which might be a hint that Google is preparing a large device for 2017.
The Google Pixel 2 series devices are expected to launch in October with features such as an edge-to-edge display, Android O and of course, Snapdragon 835.
