Google Pixel 4 Accessory Shows Its True Design
More leaks about Google’s upcoming Pixel 4 smartphone have surfaced, this time featuring an accessory that purports to show the handset’s true design.
Previously, Google surprised the world by confirming the existence of the Pixel 4 smartphone, BGR noted. Files containing designs of the upcoming flagship were stolen, and renders of the alleged device were leaked to the internet, prompting the tech giant to hastily unveil its upcoming device.
Google’s reveal, however, only showed the back of the device. It revealed a few details about the upcoming smartphone, notably the two cameras placed inside a square shaped camera module located at the top left area of the phone’s back.
Some might argue that Google copied Apple’s design for the upcoming iPhones, but BGR argues that Google “leaked” its own device so as to put on record that it didn’t copy the Apple-branded smartphone’s camera design -- the company’s “reveal” meant to say that it designed the Pixel 4 that way right off the bat.
One prominent iPhone design that many smartphones copy, Android-powered smartphones in particular, is that of the notorious notch that started with the iPhone X. Google placed a notch on the Pixel 3 XL smartphone, leading some to think that the company merely copies from Apple.
No notch?
A previous “leak” showed that the upcoming Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones won’t have the notch on its front side. That leak, however, came by way of an accessory retailer named Skinomi. In that “leak,” a smartphone purported to be the Pixel 4 was shown with a screen protector hovering in front of it. Only the front side was shown, and from that image one can see the absence of a notch.
More recent leaks, however, seem to indicate that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will retain the notch, along with some side buttons likely for power and volume control. The leaks, coming from leak aggregator Slashleaks and another from a “Xiaomi insider” on Twitter, show the alleged upcoming device with another accessory: a clear protective case.
It’s unknown where the leaks came from, but it is believed to have come from the accessory maker. The cases have openings for speakers and the charging port at the bottom, and some protrusions for the aforementioned buttons on the right hand side. More than that, there appears to be an opening at the top for what appears to be a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The renders, however, show the front side of the device has a notch. It’s unclear if these renders are based on accurate information, or if they’re based on the current Pixel 3XL design. Nevertheless, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are confirmed.
