Pixel Buds in case Google

Google’s new Pixel Buds have the ability to translate 40 languages, the tech company announced at its product launch Wednesday. While Google has not released a full list of the languages supported by Pixel Buds, it did showcase at the launch event, several of the languages, for which users will be able to get real-time translations. Check out the list below.

We know that one of the languages is Swedish, as Google senior industrial designer Isabelle Olsson and Google product manager Juston Payne did a live demo of the Pixel Buds translate feature at Wednesday’s event. Olsson spoke in Swedish and an English translation went through the Pixel Buds, while Payne spoke in English and a Swedish translation went through a Pixel 2 handset. The demo showed how fluid the conversation was, with the translation even picking up Olsson’s interjections, such as “hum.”

Pixel Buds use Google technologies, including Google Translate and Google Assistant to enable the real-time translation feature. Google revealed 28 of the 40 languages supported by the headphones. There is no word on why Google has not made known all of the languages that will be compatible with Pixel Buds. Google Translate supports 103 languages, meaning the remaining languages are likely apart of that list, which include languages such as Maltese, Yoruba, and Zulu.

Google is also continuously updating language support on Google Assistant. Amid its product unveilings, the company also announced Wednesday that German, French, Japanese, Korean and Canadian French and Canadian English are now supported by the AI software.

Pixel Buds won’t be available to market until November, which could mean that several languages may not yet have full support for the headset. However, Pixel buds are currently available for pre-order for $159.

The headset will be available in Just Black, Clearly White and Kinda Blue color options, to match the colors of the Pixel 2 devices. Users will be able to control the headset with a touchpad embedded in the right earbud. Pixel Buds come with a portable charging case, which can add up to five hours of listening time in a single charge and can hold up to 24 hours of power for multiple charges.
