Google releases own HTC Android phone to employees, on sale next year
The rumored Google phone may be coming sooner than expected, following a blog post from a Google executive on Saturday which said the company released its own Google Android phone to some of its employees.
We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe, Mario Queiroz, a Google vice president of product management wrote in the post.
This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.
He said he could not share any specific details about the product.
Queiroz said that has distributed the device to Google employees worldwide so that they could test the new technology and help improve it.
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal cites sources that confirm the phone which is called the Nexus One. The source said the phone - which runs Google's Android operating system - is being manufactured for by HTC Corp.
The difference between this Android phone and others already out there in the market, is that Google designed the entire software experience behind the phone, the source said. This includes the applications that run on the phone to the look and feel of each screen.
Queiroz's post appeared to be a response to a Twitter message posted by a Google employee Friday evening, who said she had the phone. The post, was first reported by TechCrunch.
ZOMG we had fireworks and we all got the new Google phone. It's beautiful, wrote Leslie Hawthorn, a program manager on Google's open source team.
