KEY POINTS

  • Goran Dragic needs to decide wisely where he will play next
  • The Lakers are not looking like a good place for Dragic
  • Dragic may want to join a playoff-bound team where he can have a bigger role

Goran Dragic is one of several interesting names that NBA teams are expected to consider in the buyout market.

Based on recent updates, it appears the 35-year-old will not be short of options after getting traded to the San Antonio Spurs before the February 10 deadline.

However, the Slovenian guard may want to consider the recent take of veteran American journalist Roland Lazenby, who appeared on the Sports Bytes PH podcast hosted by Filipino journalist Brian Yalung recently.

“If you think about it, let’s say if you are one of these guys in this trade and you’ve been a pro for 10 years and you get bought out and you can go with several teams, there are the Lakers up in Los Angeles. All that media pressure. All of that fan pressure. All of these difficulties to resolve," Lazenby opined.

"Would you want to go out there and get in the middle of that at the end of your career and be publicly humiliated if you’re not some magician who suddenly saves the Lakers and you’re doing that for the veteran minimum?”

Originally, it was the Dallas Mavericks widely speculated to be Dragic’s next landing spot.

That was until Mavs general manager Nico Garrison bared that they are all set with their current roster this season.

Hence, there remains no clarity on which NBA team will push for a Dragic signing.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors have joined the race for the 2014 NBA Most Improved Player.

Other teams in the race for his signature include the Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls, and Brooklyn Nets.

With those list of teams, it may all boil down to relevance for the former second-round pick from the 2008 NBA Draft.
