Gordon Ramsay’s net worth is around $220 million. But despite being one of the richest chefs in the world, none of his children with wife Tana Ramsay will automatically inherit his wealth.
The list of wealthy personalities who have promised not to pass on their wealth to their children has been growing and includes Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and George Lucas. Ramsay also believes that handing his fortune to his children — Megan, 22, twins Holly and Jack, 20, Matilda, 19, and Oscar, 19 months — who have not earned any of it would be disastrous.
Instead, Ramsay wants to cultivate the mindset that everything needs to be worked for and earned. The celebrity chef even said that their children fly in a different class when they travel.
“You appreciate it more when you’ve grafted for it,” he said in an interview published by The Telegraph.
Aside from being a proud parent, the British restaurateur is a TV personality, writer and critic. Like all successful chefs, he had to earn his stripes. He started as a commis chef at Wroxton House Hotel in Banbury, England, in the mid-1980s.
The Johnstone, Scotland native’s big break came when he worked for Marco Pierre White’s Harvey's. He would then work with Guy Savoy and Joel Robuchon after. White hired him to lead Rossmore, which was renamed Aubergine under Ramsay. The restaurant collected two Michelin stars in 1997, which it held until Ramsay left the restaurant in July 1998.
The 54-year-old gained his third star under his signature restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, London, becoming one of only three chefs in the U.K. to hold three Michelin stars at one time in 2011. He has been awarded a total of 16 Michelin stars so far in his career.
Some of the hit TV shows he has starred in include “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Masterchef,” "Gordon's Great Escape" and “Ramsay’s Best Restaurant,” among others, per Celebrity Net Worth.
While the pandemic hit the food and business industry the hardest, Ramsay’s brand remains robust. In June, Lion Capital pledged to invest $100 million to build 100 Gordon Ramsay restaurants until 2025, Forbes reported. The deal hiked his earnings this year to $70 million. His estimated salary per year is $60 million, coming from TV shows, venture deals and income from restaurants.
On the personal side, he and wife Tana own a mansion in Bel-Air, Los Angeles, which features five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The Ramsays also have several homes in London and Fowey.
One of the perks of having a TV show is getting to meet celebrities and famous personalities. Ramsay recently told People he became friends with supermodel Gigi Hadid after the two filmed "Masterchef Celebrity Showdown" in 2016. Apparently, his close ties with Hadid earned him some cool dad points from his children.
