‘Gotham City Sirens’ Movie: Will Poison Ivy And Catwoman Join Harley Quinn’s Film?
Harley Quinn is officially getting her own movie, but she’ll still be in an ensemble. “Gotham City Sirens” is an adaptation of the DC Comics series starring Margot Robbie’s crazy character and several other female villains. However, it seems like director David Ayer may have already hinted at which villains will be introduced.
Ayer, who also helmed “Suicide Squad,” tweeted Tuesday night after the movie was announced by the Hollywood Reporter. He posted some art from the “Gotham City Sirens” comics that featured Poison Ivy and Catwoman with Harley Quinn. The trio was the focus of the comics, but it hasn’t been announced if the movie will follow the source material. Could Ayer be teasing their appearance in the movie? Check out the tweet below and decide for yourself.
The comic book series, which launched in 2009, starts with Harley crashing at Poison Ivy’s hideout. The two want to know Batman’s identity, so they take Catwoman in and try to give her a truth serum. The method doesn’t work, but the three women eventually team up to protect each other.
As always, expect the movie to take liberties with the source material. It’s unlikely that “Gotham City Sirens” will follow the comics to a tee, but it certainly seems like they could utilize the same leading ladies. If Poison Ivy is included, screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet may opt to add in other parts of Ivy’s history with Harley. The two developed a romance in other series.
Last year, the official DC Comics Twitter revealed that Ivy and Harley were together. However, they didn’t actually kiss until a July 2016 issue of “DC’s Bombshells” was released.
More details will likely be released as the “Sirens” movie makes progress. THR notes that while no release date has been set, the project is now “on the fast track.”
A Harley Quinn spinoff has been talked about since before “Suicide Squad” hit theaters in August. While promoting the flick, Robbie expressed interest in playing the Joker’s sometimes-girlfriend again. “I’m so not done playing that character, and there’s so much more to do with her,” she told Tribute.ca in July. “Anyone who’s read the comics, you’ll see that there’s a million different storylines to explore. There’s just so much you can do in the DC Universe, so I think it would be cool.”
