'Gotham' Season 2 Spoilers: The Order Of St. Dumas Comes To Gotham City In Episode 10; What Happened In 'The Son Of Gotham'? [RECAP]
Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and the Gotham City Police Department think a lot of their problems will go away now that Theo Galavan (James Frain) is behind bars on Fox’s “Gotham.” However, Theo’s brotherhood of murdering monks show up and the villain is able to find a way out of jail and once again set out to kill Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) in episode 10, “The Son of Gotham.”
The episode begins with Gordon attending Officer Parks’ (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) funeral after she was killed in episode 9. Afterward, Gordon visits Theo in prison to tell him he’s going to be at his court hearing to watch him get put away. But Gordon has a suspicion that Theo is going to be cleared.
At GCPD headquarters, Capt. Barnes (Michael Chiklis) tells Gordon to let Theo’s case go since they have him and he reassigns Gordon. Detective Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) discovers Theo tried to buy an abbey that once belonged to a group known as the Order of St. Dumas, and Gordon goes against orders to check it out. The abbey is now a “Chinese massage parlor,” but the Order plans to take it back.
Bruce gets some tips about his parents' killer from Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) and plans to get information out of Silver St. Cloud (Natalie Alyn Lind). He talks to Silver on a bench outside school and tells her he’ll pay for Theo’s defense in exchange for the name of the killer. He does his best to charm Silver and she eventually agrees to talk to Theo for him. As Bruce walks to class, two men in a van are watching him.
When Gordon and Bullock arrive at the “massage parlor,” they find many women running out of the building screaming. Once inside, Gordon has to fight off a man dressed as monk. Gordon chases him outside, where the man tells Gordon “the blood of the nine will cleanse the city” before throwing himself in front of a passing truck.
Gordon reports what happened to Barnes and says he believes Theo is a part of the Order of St. Dumas, a group known for violent rituals. The order has killed five people, including bankers and criminals. Barnes tells Gordon to stay on the case and stop whatever is going down.
Silver calls Bruce to tell him that Theo agreed to the deal and to meet her across the street after school. Bruce dodges Alfred (Sean Pertwee), who’s waiting for him, and crosses the street. The van pulls up and the back door opens with Silver tied up in the back seat. The men tell Bruce not to scream and to get in or they'll kill her.
Tom (Tommy Flanagan), the man who took Bruce and Silver, says he is trying to find out who’s been digging into the murders of Bruce’s parents. Silver says she doesn’t know anything and reveals that Theo instructed her to keep Bruce busy until the night because he was going to be freed. Tom then drags Bruce into a room to try to get answers.
Tom comes back with a bloody towel to see if he can break Silver and she gives him the name “Malone.” In a surprise twist, Bruce walks out of the other room with Selina, as the two of them set the entire thing up. Bruce knows Silver's been playing him and that Theo is corrupt, but now he has what he’s been looking for.
After discovering the monks have been traveling through the sewers, Gordon and Bullock search underground and have to fight off another monk, whom Bullock knocks unconscious. Later, Gordon is able to get some information out of the monk and finds out the Order is after “the son of Gotham.”
During Theo’s court hearing, former Mayor Aubrey James (Richard Kind) lies on the stand and says Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) is the one who kidnapped him. The judge orders Theo be released after the revelation, while Gordon is livid and runs up to Theo and punches him in the face. Two police officers drag Gordon out, but it turns out they’re working for Theo and they stun Gordon with a Taser.
Gordon is tied up on the orders of Theo, who reveals to him that his real name is Dumas and he plans to take back the city for his family. He’ll do this by killing the son of Gotham, whom Gordon realizes is Bruce.
Theo orders his men to cut Gordon loose and the two fight each other. Theo beats up Gordon pretty good and instructs his men to kill him as he leaves. Just when it looks like Gordon is going to be beaten to death, Penguin shows up and kills the men hurting Gordon. Penguin wants Gordon to take him to Theo so he can avenge his mother.
Theo shows up at Wayne Manor much to Bruce’s surprise. Bruce asks what Theo wants with him and Theo tells him he wants his life, as he pulls out the big knife that once belonged to Bruce’s family.
