‘Gotham’ Season 3 Spoilers: Could Barbara Kean Become Harley Quinn?
“Gotham” Season 3 came back with a bang with its first episode, “Mad City: Better to Reign In Hell,” presenting fans with a slew of new villains who are threatening the safety of Gotham City.
But even with the appearance of a Bruce Wayne doppelgänger and the mysterious Talon who kidnapped the real Bruce (David Mazouz), it seems like one scene worth noting focused on Barbara Kean (Erin Richards).
When a thug came in threatening her new club The Sirens, Barbara gave a sinister laugh before beating up her would-be assailant. The Wrap noted that Barbara’s crazy reaction is reminiscent of Harley Quinn’s equally crazy persona, and there’s a huge chance that “Gotham” is slowly molding Barbara into Harley.
Co-executive producers John Stephens and Ken Woodruff earlier told IGN that “Gotham” fans had already seen Harley in past episodes, they just didn’t know it was her yet.
“You may have already seen Harley as a person that you thought you had met and known for a long time. So we always reserve the right to sort of do that as well,” said Woodruff.
Stephens added that “the Harley Quinn of it all is a bit more of a sticky wicket but it’s one we’ve already thought about for the character. We don’t want to give too much away but it will definitely be someone connected to the Joker cult world that we have set up. But it’s down the road, later in Season 3 right now.”
It is also worth noting that there was a comic series that ran from 2009 to 2011 titled “Gotham City Sirens,” which focused on a Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy team-up. It seems very convenient that Barbara and Tabitha Galavan’s (Jessica Lucas) new club is also called The Sirens.
Meanwhile, Benedict Samuel’s new villain Jervis Tetch, also known as the Mad Hatter, will make his first appearance in Season 3. Samuel told Zap2It that his character will “move hell and high earth” just to find his sister, Alice.
“Gotham” airs every Monday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
