'Gotham' Season 3 Spoilers: Morena Baccarin Talks Dr. Lee Thompkins' New Love

Things did not end well between Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Dr. Leslie “Lee” Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) in “Gotham” Season 2, so the former lovers have a lot of unfinished business to deal with when the Fox show returns.

For one thing, Lee lost her baby with Jim after he was sent to jail. Jim let her go for good, even though she refused to do so. It’s very clear the two still love each other a great deal, even though fate seems intent on keeping them apart.

When the show returns, Lee has somewhat healed from the trauma caused by Jim leaving her. “She came back home to the south, whatever that means,” Baccarin laughingly told Three If By Space, right after she finished “patch[ing] herself back together.”

Baccarin added that Lee is already with someone else in Season 3 and she described him as a Falcone who is not fond of using his father's name. With her character's newfound love, the actress said that the plot will thicken because Lee is back at the GCPD where she is bound to run into Jim again.

But Jim did not waste any time as well finding another woman. He is going to date Valerie Vale (Jamie Chung), who is described by TV Line as a fearless reporter who will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of a good story.

McKenzie told Comic Book Resources that there will be an interesting love triangle next season as their well-loved characters struggle with their desires and emotions.

“There’s a new love interest for me in Valerie Vale – I think I can say that that’s a love interest. I don’t think it’s much of a surprise. It’s professional, and then not. And [Lee] has a new man as well. So we get to have fun with the kind of love triangle aspect,” he said.

“Gotham” will return on Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. on Fox.
