‘Gotham’ Season 4 Spoilers: EP Talks Jerome’s ‘Original’ Reintroduction
One of the fan favorite villains of “Gotham” will be making a huge comeback this Season 4. This is what executive producer Bryan Wynbrandt revealed about Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), who was last seen locked up in Arkham Asylum.
With his trademark grin and maniacal laugh, Jerome has been associated by fans as the Joker. But Wynbrandt told Screen Rant that Jerome is not really the Joker. He explained that Jerome is a pretty novel villain for the show, and this is what they will continue to do to him this season.
“This is a very original kind of take on this story and we’re really excited about it because his reintroduction into the Gotham world is going to have him crossing with characters we’ve not yet seen him with. Which is really kind of a theme we’ve been playing with this whole season and something we challenged ourselves over designing this season,” he told Comic Book.
Wynbrandt added that every time Jerome makes his way into the show, it “signifies something big happening.” Because of this, they have always been very careful with the character.
“That you don’t overplay his hand in the show but all that being said, he has been phenomenal. We have an awesome story for him. You’re going to love it and the fans are going to love it and it really goes to a really interesting place and has ripple effects not just in this season but hopefully, knock on wood, next season as well,” he said.
Wynbrandt is trying to be mysterious about the Joker’s partnership this season, but co-executive producer John Stephens already revealed who this person will be.
“You're totally gonna see him this year,” he said of Jerome’s return. “You’re gonna see him in a new position this year, and he's gonna form an alliance with a character who he has not been near at any time soon. Essentially, we're gonna see him and Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) come closer.”
“Gotham” Season 4 will premiere on Sept. 21 on Fox.
