The release date of “Gotham” Season 4 has been bumped up a week earlier. Fox

Good news for “Gotham” fans: The Fox show has decided to move its release date one week earlier than expected.

According to Digital Spy, the network has made no explanation regarding the move, but “Gotham” isn’t the only show to experience this adjustment. Even Seth MacFarlane’s new sci-fi comedy, “The Orville,” has been bumped up a week earlier to air right after “Gotham” Season 4.

Next season, Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will be getting some help from a new character who has ties with his ex-girlfriend’s husband, Mario Falcone (James Carpinello).

“Teen Wolf” star Crystal Reed will play Sofia Falcone, a “strong, intelligent and calculating” woman who “has run the Falcone operation in the south for the past 10 years and is returning to Gotham to help Gordon take down Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).”

Even after several attempts made by Ed Nygma/Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) to take him down, the Penguin, also known as Oswald Cobblepot, came out triumphant in the end. He even decided to open his new bar - the Iceberg Lounge.

As threatening and powerful as the Penguin has become, the most terrifying villain Gordon and his team have to fight in Season 4 will be the Scarecrow, Jonathan Crane (Charlie Tahan).

His origin story was established during the 15th episode of the first season, after Gordon and his partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) went after his father, Gerald, for harvesting the adrenal glands of his murder victims.

Jonathan was last seen screaming in terror in the hospital, after being injected by his father’s experiment and being subjected to a constant state of terror. This time around, he will be the one bringing the terror to Gotham residents.

“Scarecrow comes back in season 4,” David Mazouz, the actor who plays Bruce Wayne, told Comic Book. “It’s on full blast, I’m really excited.”

His co-star Drew Powell, who might portray the zombie Solomon Grundy, supported Mazouz’s revelation. “It’s super creepy, too. You’re gonna love it,” he teased.

“Gotham” Season 4 will be released by Fox on Sept. 21.
