Grambling University Shooting Kills 2, Suspect Still At Large
A shooting at the Grambling State University (GSU) in Louisiana around midnight Tuesday claimed two lives, it has been reported.
The bodies were discovered outside two separate dorms in the university, Will Sutton, the school’s communications director, told the New York Daily News. The victims have been reportedly recognized as Earl Andrews, a Grambling State University senior and Monquiarius Caldwell, who was not a student at the university. Both the victims were 25-year-olds from Farmville, Louisiana.
The Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office, which is the lead agency in the investigation, has neither confirmed nor denied the identity of the victims. The LPSO is currently collaborating with the Grambling State University Police to get to the root of the case.
According to Sutton, some sort of an altercation took place between an unknown suspect and the two victims. The altercation took place in the courtyard of the campus and the suspect fled the scene soon after, ABC affiliate Knoe reported. No description of the suspect has been issued by the investigators yet. An unnamed female student called the campus police after the incident and that is when the two dead bodies were discovered.
It is not immediately clear as to why Caldwell was present inside the university campus at that hour or what his relation to Andrews is. Until the crime scene can be processed, all the students have been told to stay inside their dormitories.
"Our prayers go out to the victims and their families. Violence has no place on our campus. We will fully cooperate with the police investigation," said Sutton in his official statement, My Arklamiss reported.
According to GSU’s website, it “combines the academic strengths of a major university with the benefits of a small college, a combination that enables our students to grow and learn in a serene and positive environment.”
This is a developing story.
