Grammy Awards 2013: Did Miley Cyrus Skip Show Because Of Wardrobe Malfunction?
Despite CBS’s “Wardrobe Advisory” urging guests and presenters to tone it down for the 2013 Grammys, not everyone seemed to get the literal memo, most notably Miley Cyrus, who suffered a very visible wardrobe malfunction at a Grammy pre-party before curiously ditching the annual awards show.
In a defiant nod at Grammy producers, Miley showed up to a pre-party sporting a dangerously narrow black Emilio Pucci halter dress, which the Examiner called “a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.” The sexy gown showed off the sides of Cyrus’ breasts, and at one point accidentally exposed her nipple before she appeared to catch the embarrassing blunder and adjust her dress, in a photo published by Hollywood Life.
In a widely circulated and mocked internal memo before the Grammys, CBS cautioned guests to keep their sartorial choices for the award show appropriate, perhaps getting a little too specific with the particulars of what they didn’t want to see.
"Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered,” the e-mail memo began. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic.”
The memo also warned against sheer, gauzy material that might expose nipples, and inadequate concealment of “the genital region”, specifically “visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposure.”
However, Miley didn’t seem to be too concerned with adhering to dress codes, as she stepped out in the flirtatious outfit, pairing it with thigh-high black leather boots that could be clearly seen through the dress’s sheer bottom. But shortly after the pre-Grammys party Miley seemed to vanish from the ceremony.
Before the party Miley tweeted a photo of herself prepping for the night with the help of her makeup artist and hair stylist, writing “Pregrammy gorgeousness.” But whether due to her wardrobe misstep or perhaps the fact that she was not given the recognition she’s gotten in past years, she was noticeably silent throughout the night, and didn’t appear in any photos during the ceremony.
Her only reference to the awards show was a re-tweet from Pharrell Williams, saying, “Hey lil sis @MileyCyrus, you know it's gonna be all about you at next year's @TheGRAMMYs, right? #GRAMMYS #smilers”
