Great News For Cricket Fans As BCCI Confirms Dates For IPL 2020

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly confirmed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played this year.

According to the Indian cricket website Cricbuzz, the IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel has revealed that the much-awaited T20 league will commence on Sept. 19 and the final will be played on Nov. 8.

The report has further disclosed that more details including teams’ departure and the full schedule of the tournament will be learned after the IPL Governing Council meeting, which is due to take place next week.

Since India’s coronavirus pandemic condition is getting worse with every passing day, the BCCI has chosen the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the host of the 13th edition of the IPL. While the BCCI is yet to receive clearance from the Indian government, they are confident about hosting the entire tournament in the UAE. The country has some experience of hosting the IPL as a part of IPL 2014 was played there because of the general elections in India.

It was earlier reported that the cricket board has written to the Indian government seeking permission for the IPL 2020 to be shifted to the UAE and also obtain the required travel permission for the players and team officials.

The postponed of the Men's T20 World Cup, which was scheduled to be held from Oct.18 to Nov. 15, by the International Cricket Council opened up a window for the IPL.

After cricket being suspended for more than three months, the action returned with England taking on West Indies earlier this month. The IPL news is expected to excite the fans as they will finally be able to watch their heroes such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, David Warner, MS Dhoni, and AB de Villiers once again on the field. Moreover, the fans have not watched Dhoni in action since India’s heartbreaking semi-final loss to New Zealand at the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
