‘Great News’ Season 2: Diana St. Tropez’s Plan For ‘The Breakdown’ Revealed
It looks like “The Breakdown” will undergo some dramatic changes in Season 2 of “Great News.”
Series creator Tracey Wigfield, who also appears as meteorologist Beth on the NBC sitcom, revealed to TV Insider that new MMN boss Diana St. Tropez (Tina Fey) has plans to reinvent “The Breakdown” to attract more viewers.
Wigfield said that the overhaul of the news program will shake things up for anchors Chuck (John Michael Higgins) and Portia (Nicole Richie), as well as for Katie’s (Briga Heelan) mom Carol (Andrea Martin), who doesn’t seem to be a fan of Diana.
But not all staffers are against Diana’s plan to reinvent the news program. “Oh, Greg (Adam Campbell) is so excited,” Wigfield said of “The Breakdown” executive producer with a laugh. “Diana has bought him a new clipboard.”
Fey’s recurring role on the show was announced at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour earlier this month. During a panel at the event, Wigfield described Fey’s Diana as “Sheryl Sandberg on steroids” and called the character one of the few women who is seen as truly having it all. “Diana is hopefully a really good foil to Andrea’s character,” Wigfield said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “This character kind of represents to her everything that she isn't.”
Fey, who is also an executive producer on the series, is set to appear in the first three episodes of Season 2. The two-time Golden Globe-winning actress will then return for four more episodes later in the season.
“Great News” Season 2 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on NBC.
