‘Great News’ Season 2, Episode 3 Spoilers: Carol And Diana Get Promotions

Carol and Diana are both promoted in next week’s episode of “Great News.”

According to the synopsis for Season 2, episode 3 of the NBC series, Carol (Andrea Martin) becomes head intern at MMN but struggles to prove to the other interns, and to herself, that she deserves the job.

While Carol’s new position won’t be easy for her, Martin is actually pleased with the new development in her character. “I love that,” Martin told TV Insider of Carol’s promotion. “I can totally see Carol using her motherly wisdom in a business she doesn’t know anything about.”

Meanwhile, Diana (Tina Fey) — who was just promoted to head of the network — has been promoted again, this time to the head of the corporation that owns MMN. Unfortunately, before she vacates her current position, she finds herself embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal, leaving Katie (Briga Heelan) unsure who to believe, her mentor or her friends in the office.

“She’s obsessed with Diana and her book,” Heelan told TV Insider of how much Katie looks up to Diana. “Because [she’s] everything that Katie is inherently not and can’t do and is struggling horribly to be. I imagine her reading it under the covers alone and crying at night.”

The upcoming episode also marks the end of Fey’s three-episode appearance on the show. But should Diana return for more episodes later in the season, Fey — who also serves as executive producer on the series — hinted that it would be on better terms. “When [Diana] first gets there she thinks it’s kind of behind-the-times, but by the time she leaves later in the season, she’s very impressed with the staff as a group of human beings and how they relate to each other,” Fey said.

While it’s unclear whether Fey will reprise her role on the show again after her short stint at the beginning of the new season, series creator Katie Wigfield said (via The Hollywood Reporter) at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour last August that she’s hopeful that the introduction of Fey’s Diana “really sets up all of our characters on really funny stories for the rest of the season.”
