Green Bay Packers Lose Top-2 Seed, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints Lead NFC Playoff Picture
The Green Bay Packers suffered their third loss of the 2019 NFL season when they were blown out by the San Francisco 49ers 37-8 Sunday night. The team is likely still headed to the playoffs, but their path to Super Bowl LIV might have gotten more difficult in Week 12.
San Francisco improved to 10-1 with the best record in the NFC. Trailing the 49ers by two games in the standings and losing the head-to-head tiebreaker, the Packers probably won’t finish the regular season with the conference’s top seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
The New Orleans Saints jumped the Packers in the standings by defeating the Carolina Panthers 34-31 Sunday afternoon. Green Bay fell to third in the NFC and would no longer have a bye if the postseason began in Week 13.
New Orleans hosts San Francisco in two weeks. The Saints and Packers both have two loses within the NFC. Conference record will be the tiebreaker if both teams end up with the same record..
The Saints will host the Atlanta Falcons on Thanksgiving. Green Bay is set to visit the New York Giants Sunday.
Green Bay can’t get a first-round bye without winning the NFC North. The Packers and Minnesota Vikings both have an 8-3 record. Green Bay owns the tiebreaker because of a victory over Minnesota at Lambeau Field in Week 2.
The Vikings had a bye in Week 12. After starting the season 2-2, Minnesota has won six of its last seven games. The Vikings are undefeated at home this season.
Minnesota will visit the Seattle Seahawks on “Monday Night Football” in Week 13. The Vikings will host the Packers in Week 16.
Seattle has one more win than both Minnesota and Green Bay, but they trail San Francisco by a game in the NFC West. The Seahawks are the only team that has beaten the 49ers. The division rivals will have a rematch in Seattle in Week 17,
The latest NFL playoff picture would pit Green Bay at home against Minnesota on Wild-Card Weekend.
