Green Day Track Debuts On 'Breaking Dawn 2' Soundtrack Following Tour Cancelation
Green Day's latest song "The Following" debuts on Tuesday. The song marks the first single off the The "Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2" soundtrack. The video for the piano- heavy ballad, which features clips from the film intercut with shots of the band performing live, premiered via MTV.com.
"When we were asked to be part of the 'Breaking Dawn:Part 2' soundtrack, we readily agreed because the films are an insane cultural phenomenon," Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt said in a statement released earlier this month. "We have always been impressed with the way the 'Twilight' soundtracks are carefully curated."
The song should provide some relief for Green Day fans who were disappointed by the recent announcement that the iconic punk band was forced to cancel their upcoming tour dates after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong decided to seek further treatment for substance abuse.
“Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern,” Drint said in a statement posted on the band's website. “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”
Armstrong's decision to enter rehab was announced in September following his onstage meltdown at Clear Channel's iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nev.
As a thank-you to the fans for their support, the band also announced that their album ¡Tré!” will debut on Dec. 11, 2012 instead of its initial Jan. 15, 2013 release date. The band's album
"We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned,” said drummer Tré Cool. “If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing."
Other artists who appear on the "Breaking Dawn" soundtrack include Passion Pit, Feist, St. Vincent and rising pop sensation Ellie Goulding.
While Robert Pattinson lent his musical talents to the first "Twilight" soundtrack, Nikki Reed has a go at singing this time around. The actress makes her singing debut on the track "All I Ever Needed." The romantic ballad features a duet between Reed and her husband, former "American Idol" contestant Paul McDonald.
Broadway star Reeve Carney, who previously dated the film's star Ashley Greene, also appears on the album.
Based on the popularity of previous "Twilight" soundtracks, it's likely the album will be a hit. The soundtracks for the first four films in the franchise "Twilight," Twilight: New Moon,""Twilight: Eclipse," and "Breaking Dawn: Part 1" all debuted with-in the top five spots on the billboard charts.
The "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2" soundtrack will debut on Nov. 14.
