Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Has Meltdown Onstage: 'I'm Not F---ing Justin Bieber, You Motherf---ers!'
After Green Day had its set cut short at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Friday, lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong delivered a profanity-laced tirade directed at the managers of the festival, telling them, “I'm not f---ing Justin Bieber, you motherf---ers.”
Green Day was scheduled to play a full hour at the festival, but suddenly found its time cut short to give Usher more time to perform. Frustrated with this development, Armstrong began swearing excessively about not being able to play longer.
At the end of his tirade, Armstrong, a 40-year-old man, then proceeded to smash his guitar on the stage, completely destroying it. The band then hurriedly left the stage.
Read a complete transcript of the meltdown, courtesy of Gawker: “Oh, f--- this shit. I'm gonna play a f---ing new song. F--- this s---. Give me a f---ing break. One minute left. One minute f---ing left. You're gonna give me one f---ing minute? Look at that f---ing sign right there -- one minute. Let me f---ing tell you something, let me tell you something, I've been around since f---ing 198-f---ing-8. And you're gonna give me one f---ing minute? You've gotta be f---ing kidding me! You're f---ing kidding me. What the f---! I'm not f---ing Justin Bieber, you motherf---ers. You've gotta be f---ing joking. This is a f---ing joke. I got one minute -- one minute left. Oh, now, I got nothing left. Let me show you what one f---ing minute f---ing means. [He smashes guitar.] One minute. God f---ing love you all. We'll be back.”
While Green Day’s meltdown made headlines across the Internet, the iHeartRadio Music Festival website attempted to downplay Armstrong’s swift exit from the stage. The recap of Green Day’s set simply says the band “capp[ed] off their amazing, nothing-short-of-pure-punk-rock set with one of the most memorable stage walk-offs that has ever happened in history.”
Other performers at the iHeartRadio fest include Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Usher, Linkin Park, No Doubt, Brad Paisley, and Pitbull.
