Green Monday Sales 2014: Amazon, eBay, Walmart And More Participate In Shopping ‘Holiday’
Most people are familiar with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but Green Monday? It’s apparently the third biggest shopping day of the holiday season, ABC News reported. The sale comes a week after Cyber Monday, which could be a relief for people who need a second chance to snag some deals.
While the term “green” might sound like it’s nature-friendly, it has nothing to do with the great outdoors. Instead, the color is a representation of cold hard cash, ABC News said. Even though it might seem relatively, new -- or “green” -- the pseudo-shopping holiday emerged in 1997. By 2012, it had become the third most popular day to purchase gifts for the festive season.
“It is likely that this year Green Monday will be even bigger, thanks to the ‘stretching holiday shopping’ trend,” Custora CEO Corey Pierson told ABC News. “Bottom line, online shopping is now spread over multiple days during the holiday season, and not just ‘Cyber Monday.’”
Amazon is just one of the retailers participating. “Green Monday Deal Days are here, and we’re bringing you hundreds of deals over the next four days. Black Friday and Cyber Monday may be over, but big deals are back for Green Monday,” the online retailer said, according to BGR. “Some Green Monday 2014 deals are in limited supply, and all will go quickly -- but don’t worry if you miss one, because we’ll keep adding new ones throughout each day.”
People can save hundreds of dollars on tech items. Some of the items up for auction are Kindle Fire HDX 7″ (HDX Display, Wi-Fi and 4G LTE, 16 GB) and Dell XPS 8700 (Windows 7 Pro, Core i7, 8GB RAM).
EBay is also getting in on the mix. Shoppers can save more than $300 on the iPhone 5 (Unlocked, 32 GB) and nearly $1,300 on Canon EOS 5D III Digital SLR Camera. Checkout BGR for a full list of sale items on Amazon and eBay.
Major stores like Walmart are also partaking in the holiday. With “Frozen” being one of the biggest hits for kids, Walmart is selling Snow Glow Elsa Doll for $28.88, ABC News reported.
