“Grey’s Anatomy” fans have been so worried about how Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will survive Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) shocking death that they’ve forgotten she’s not the only person who will mourn the beloved surgeon. Derek’s sister Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), who also happens to work at Grey Sloan Memorial (the same hospital he had served), will learn the devastating fate of her big brother in Season 11, episode 22. And we suggest you grab your tissues now because the sneak peek, which shows Amelia learning her brother's fate, will leave you misty-eyed. (At least, it did for us!)

The minute-long video begins with Owen (Kevin McKidd) walking into the surgical prep room where Amelia is getting ready for an operation. Callie (Sara Ramirez), who knows that Owen is about to become the bearer of bad news, warns him that this isn’t the time or place to confront his ex with the news that her brother is dead -- especially considering she’s about to cut someone open in just a few moments.

But Owen defies Callie’s advice, deciding this is news that just can’t wait. He then ushers everyone but Amelia out of the area.

“Who died?” Amelia asks Owen after a long, intense stare. “I know the face. I’ve been here before. Everyone thinks they are the first person in the world to look at a human being like that, but it’s always the same face. Who is dead?”

That’s when Owen breaks the news: “Derek. It’s Derek,” he tells Amelia, who is staring blankly at him in disbelief.

Amelia is no stranger to losing a loved one. She’s had to watch her father, both her fiancés and her baby die throughout her time on the hit ABC series and the “Private Practice” spinoff. But we have a feeling that Derek’s demise might hit her particularly hard because he was more than just her sibling -- he was her rock. When Amelia floundered during her surgery on Dr. Herman (Geena Davis) to remove her massive tumor, whom did she want to call for aid? Derek.

But it looks like Amelia will have to learn to take on the world, at least Grey Sloan, without her older brother watching her back. Hopefully Amelia and Meredith can be each other’s support during this heartbreaking time -- that is, if Meredith doesn’t decide to up and leave Seattle following her husband’s passing.

In the promo video for the episode, which will be two hours long, Meredith revealed to her daughter Zola that they were going “away” as the two packed their bags. Will Meredith flee Seattle in order to start over in a new town, one that doesn’t know of her great losses? For Amelia's sake we sure hope not.
