'Grey’s Anatomy' Season 12 Spoilers: Camilla Luddington Talks Alex’s Proposal, Reveals Jo Will Respond To ‘Big’ Question In Winter Premiere
“Grey’s Anatomy” is going dark.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Camilla Luddington, who portrays Jo on the medical drama, dished that the ABC series is ditching its lighter tone and hitting audiences where it hurts.
“The episode [audiences] are coming back to is directed by Denzel Washington. It was incredible — so much drama,” the 32-year-old star spoke of the jaw-dropping Season 12 winter premiere. “I tweeted this yesterday: ‘We are not easing you back into 'Grey’s Anatomy.’ It’s so much drama! And cliffhangers, yes, you will get the answers to that [question] in [the premiere] … to the big question.”
The “big” question Luddington is referring to is Alex’s (Justin Chambers) marriage proposal to Jo. When “Grey’s Anatomy” concluded its midseason finale, audiences sat on the edges of their seats as Alex’s proposal was left dangling in the air.
Since the episode aired, fans have debated how Jo should answer Alex’s question.
“That’s really fun for me to see, that they have that much passion,” Luddington said to NKD Magazine, “that they’ve decided what’s best for these characters.”
But while some fans are itching to see Jo say “yes,” others are hesitant to see the resident accept the ring due to how rocky Alex and Jo’s relationship currently is. Alex’s intimate relationship with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) had strained the couple’s romance … and it doesn’t look like Alex will be willing to cut his “person” off anytime soon — especially not after the events that take place in episode 9, “The Sound of Silence.”
“Meredith is attacked, and it is as terrifying and as shocking as you would expect for it to be,” Kelly McCreary, who portrays Mer’s half sister Maggie, revealed during the Television Critics Association panel in January. “Get ready to have your guts feel like they’re coming out of you, because it is truly harrowing.”
Fans caught at glimpse at just how distraught the surgeons are when a sneak-peek video of the upcoming episode revealed a heartbreaking scene of Alex sobbing over Meredith’s paralyzed body.
Is it possible Meredith’s attack could affect Jo’s answer to Alex's proposal? Sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts and don’t forget to tune into the Season 12 winter premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
