‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Spoilers: Justin Chambers Resurfaces MerLex Rumors
There’s only one thing that could make Season 13 of “Grey’s Anatomy” better — Alex and Meredith finally dating. Fans have been waiting for the pair to realize their potential to no avail, but is it out of the question?
According to Justin Chambers, who plays Alex on the ABC medical drama, no. During PaleyFest in Los Angeles, he teased a possible MerLex romance. He told ET Online there is nothing outside the realm of possibility, especially on “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“I’m very comfortable with them being platonic — like brother and sister, and friends. I think that suits them better,” he said. “But hey, who know? Nobody knows how things go, you know? I was friends with my wife before we started dating.”
Chambers wasn’t Pompeo’s only on-screen lover staying mum. Martin Henderson, who plays Riggs on “Grey’s Anatomy,” told PaleyFest attendees he enjoys playing opposite her. He wouldn’t say what will become of he and Meredith, but he praised Pompeo’s acting.
“It’s been wonderful to play a character who’s been sort of polarizing and a mystery,” Henderson said (via TV Line). “It’s impossible to be a great man without a good woman by your side.”
This isn’t the first time “Grey’s Anatomy” fans have had hope for a MerLex relationship, however. In December 2016, show creator Shonda Rhimes sparked rumors that it may be coming down the pike when Season 13 returned. She told TV Line there was no real reason she hadn’t written a storyline about them getting together.
“That’s like asking me why I haven’t had a certain kind of cheese. The answer is, ‘Because I haven’t had that kind of cheese,’” she said.
After the interview, fans flocked to social media to express their love of Meredith and Alex’s relationship. Some expressed a desire to have a friendship as strong as theirs, while others pined for more. It’s not clear if or when MerLex will happen, but “Grey’s Anatomy” fans are ready.
Tune in to “Grey’s Anatomy” Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
