'Grey's Anatomy' Season 18: Abigail Spencer Confirmed To Return As Dr. Megan Hunt

Abigail Spencer will reprise her role as Dr. Megan Hunt in “Grey’s Anatomy” season 18. On Tuesday, Spencer took to Instagram to celebrate the news after ABC announced her return to the hit medical series.

Sharing a selfie of herself on the platform, she wrote, “ " _ s out of the _ . #MeganHunt is back on @greysabc this season! Thank you to this glorious team & historic show for having me! @kristavernoff."

Spencer, who plays the younger sister of Kevin McKidd’s Dr. Owen Hunt in the series, first joined “Grey’s Anatomy” in season 14. She appeared in six episodes of the show through season 15. Her character is a trauma surgeon who has served in the U.S. Army alongside her brother, as well as Kim Raver’s Teddy Altman and Martin Henderson’s Nathan Riggs.

Dr. Megan Hunt previously went missing for 10 years. When the show picks up, she will be shown living in Los Angeles with her adopted son Farouk and fiancé Nathan.

Aside from Spencer, several other characters have been confirmed to return for the 18^th season of the show. Last week, Kate Walsh also broke the news of her return to the long-running series, where she plays Dr. Addison Montgomery.

In a video posted on “Grey’s Anatomy” Twitter page, Walsh said, “Well, well, well, would you look who it is. That’s right, my loves. Dr. Addison Montgomery is coming back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and I’m so excited to be home again joining Shonda, Ellen, and the rest of the incredible cast,” referring to series creator Shonda Rhimes and Ellen Pompeo.

“This season—18, whew!—Just wait until you see what she has in store for you. The new season premieres September 30 on ABC,” she added. The actress also took to Instagram to confirm her return, telling fans, “I’m so excited to be home again.”

Another star who has been confirmed to return to the series is Kate Burton, who plays Meredith Grey’s mother, Dr. Ellis Grey.

“Grey’s Anatomy” season 17 saw the return of cast members Patrick Dempsey, T.R. Knight, Chyler Leigh, and Sarah Drew. The new season will premiere on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.
