The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said it discovered the possible E. coli contamination in the meat from Lakeside Refrigerated Services during routine testing of the imported beef products.

E. coli illness can occur two to eight days after consumption of the infected organism. Symptoms can include diarrhea that is often bloody and vomiting, with most people recovering within a week.

In rare instances, a severe infection can occur, causing kidney failure most often in children under the age of 5, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection can include easy bruising, pallor, and decreased urine output. If these symptoms present, seek immediate medical treatment.
