“Grand Theft Auto 5” will launch for the PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime during the third or fourth quarter this year, and players are especially looking forward to the PC version of the title for the ability to easily add mods.

Mods are modifications of program code inputted into a game to make it operate in a different way from its original version. Currently, players are creating mods of their own for the Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the action adventure title, but “GTA 5’s” upcoming PC version will make modding the game even easier.

New York City-based developer Rockstar assured fans the game's next-gen and PC release would be worth the wait. Besides mods, the updated versions will allow players to see the game's fictional city of Los Santos in a whole new way.

“'Grand Theft Auto V’ will take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with across-the-board graphical and technical improvements to deliver a stunning new level of detail,” the developer said on the Rockstar Newsire earlier this month. “Increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions all work together to bring new life to the cities, towns, deserts and oceans of Rockstar North’s epic reimagining of Southern California.”

In its Steam listing, Rockstar assured fans the PC version "will take full advantage of the power of PC to deliver across-the-board enhancements including increased resolution and graphical detail, denser traffic, greater draw distances, upgraded AI, new wildlife, and advanced weather and damage effects for the ultimate open world experience.”

“Grand Theft Auto V" launched in October for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and is an open world action game developed by Scotland-based Rockstar North and published by NYC-based Rockstar Games. “GTA V” received highly favorable reviews and was the 15th installment in the “GTA” series and the first game since 2008’s “GTA IV.” The Spike Video Game Awards gave the title the Most Anticipated Game award in 2012. Following its release, the game received the Game of the Year award at the 2013 Golden Joystick Awards. Only three days following its release, IGN listed “GTA V” as second on its list of “Top 25 Xbox 360 Games.”

Within just 24 hours of its release, “GTA V” generated more than $800 million in revenue, which equates to selling around 11.21 million copies. Three days after its release, the title had surpassed $1 billion in sales. By Oct. 7, nearly one month after the game’s Sept. 17 release date, “GTA V” became the largest digital release in the PlayStation Store for the PS3. The game also received a score of 8/10 on Gamespot.com.
