KEY POINTS
- Rockstar Games is preparing to release the "GTA 5" versions for next-gen consoles
- A new rumor claims that the studio is working on a new project
- This project is rumored to be a collection of classic "GTA" titles
Rockstar Games announced that it is working on the expanded and enhanced version of "Grand Theft Auto 5" that could launch on next-generation gaming consoles sometime this year. But according to a new rumor, the gaming studio is also working on "GTA Trilogy Remastered," which could be a collection of titles such as "GTA III," "GTA: Vice City" and "GTA: San Andreas."
The latest rumor came from GTA Forums, a platform where leaks and rumors about "GTA" games thrive. Some members of the forum, who are reliable industry insiders as well, dropped clues about a new project, which Rockstar Games would reportedly announce within the next 90 days. According to them, the project is a collection of PlayStation 2-era "GTA" titles, including "GTA 3," "GTA: Vice City" and "GTA: San Andreas."
Another industry insider and admin of GTA Forums named Uni tweeted an image showing three Shark Cards. These cards are used by "GTA" players to add money to "GTA Online." Each card features interesting numbers which, upon closer inspection, would reveal show the years 2001, 2002 and 2004. Fans were quick to notice that these years correspond to the release dates of the "GTA" titles rumored to be included in the "GTA Trilogy Remastered."
Indeed, these are the release dates of "Grand Theft Auto 3," "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" and "Grand Theft Auto 5," respectively. However, while these hints could prove that the rumored "GTA Trilogy Remastered" is in the works, it is not official yet.
Rockstar Games has a penchant for relaunching its classic "Grand Theft Auto" titles over the years. In the past, it released "GTA 3," "GTA: Vice City" and "GTA: San Andreas" to PlayStation 4. However, it is worth noting that in the absence of official announcements or confirmation, fans should manage their expectations and take these details with skepticism.
But if the rumors are true, will the "GTA Trilogy Remastered" come out ahead of the "GTA 6" launch? Will Rockstar Games release first the "GTA 6" and then the rumored remastered trilogy right after?
