'GTFO': Essential Survival Tips For Beginners
KEY POINTS
- Stealth is crucial when making progress in the game
- In case of failed stealth attempts, fall back to the nearest chokepoint
- Plan weapon loadouts and strategies accordingly
The claustrophobic caves and tight corridors of mysterious complexes in “GTFO” are filled to the brim with trouble. In the beginning, players can quickly find themselves overwhelmed by the hordes of monsters sleeping in the dark. This could be a bit frustrating, but it’s nothing that a bit of luck, skill and technical know-how can’t fix.
“GTFO” is a very difficult game, especially for the unprepared and uncoordinated. To survive the seemingly-impossible suicide runs that the game throws at players, here’s a short collection of useful tips and tricks.
Stealth Is Essential
The Sleepers that players will encounter at every level are often docile unless roused from their sleep. Players can easily avoid taking unnecessary damage or using resources by sneaking past Sleepers or taking them out quietly.
Remain crouched, turn off all flashlights and approach these monsters quietly. One hit to the head is often enough to kill the standard Sleeper, but the bigger ones will need multiple charged hits to the spine.
Use Computer Terminals
Terminals are useful when locating important items like keycards, health packs, ammo, gadgets and objectives. However, unlike in many other games, players will need to type in commands into these terminals to use them.
They may seem complicated at first, but the commands are fairly straightforward. Try to make the most use of the “QUERY” command to find objectives and items scattered across each level.
Plan Loadouts Accordingly
Make sure every player has at least one special weapon suited for different occasions. Slow-firing DMRs and sniper rifles are best used against large Sleepers, while faster-firing weapons are better against hordes.
As for special tools, always try to have one team member with the C-FOAM Launcher and another one with a Mine Layer. These tools are extremely helpful during bio scan scenarios since a reinforced door can help set enemies up for a perfect mine detonation.
Fight In Chokepoints Frequently
As much as possible, try to fight near doorways or in large corridors. Should someone in the team alert all the Sleepers in a room, fall back to the nearest entry point, close the door and wait for the Sleepers to tear it up.
Funneling enemies into chokepoints can make gunning them down much easier, as players can simply spray their weapons into the opening. This strategy can also make the most use of mines and sentry guns.
