'The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special': James Gunn Calls The Movie 'Really Funny'
Director James Gunn has shared a major update regarding the highly anticipated movie, "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special," which is slated to release in December this year.
The 55-year-old director revealed even though there are less than 12 months remaining in the release, he hasn’t started filming the movie yet.
"It's still upcoming in the shoot," the director told Collider on Tuesday. "We were supposed to shoot one day in LA, and there's too much Omicron around, so we couldn't do it. We're going to have to fit it in. I haven't started yet."
Gunn further shared he was excited to film the movie, considering it was going to be a holiday special. Moreover, he noted this holiday special was written in a very short amount of time.
"I'm almost jealous of it, even though I wrote it because people freak out so much on how much they love the script for the holiday special that I'm almost like, 'Well, wait. I've got this movie here I've been working on for two years. You love the holiday special that I literally wrote in a very short amount of time,'" he said.
"But, it is really funny and really good," he added.
The director also opened up about the HBO Max series, "Peacemaker," which is slated to release this Thursday. The series features John Cena, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji, Freddie Stroma, Danielle Brooks, Steve Agee and Robert Patrick.
"It's going great. Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is," he said. "Literally freaking out."
Gunn revealed he "gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break" and the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige was really stoked. However, the director noted "Peacemaker" was not going to be what people expect.
"It's a hard road, but I'm really happy with it so far," he concluded.
On the work front, Gunn is currently filming "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," which is scheduled for May 23, 2023 release. The movie stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Will Poulter, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone and Elizabeth Debicki.
