'Guardians of the Galaxy' Video Game: Marvel Reveals Trailer, Release Date
KEY POINTS
- "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy" to release on Oct. 26
- It is a single-player video game
- The characters are derived from the original Guardians universe
Video game company Square Enix and Marvel Games finally dropped the highly-anticipated first trailer of the video game, "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy."
Marvel took to Twitter to announce the release date of the game Sunday. "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Oct. 26, 2021," the franchise tweeted. "Hang on. This is gonna be a wild one Rocket #GOTGGame # YouGotThis"
Another tweet revealed the video game was going to be a single-player adventure, filled with action, and will be from a third person's point of view. The tweet also added the characters will be from the original Guardians universe.
One user asked if the new game was linked to the previously released Avengers video game. "No, this is a completely original story with our own fresh take on the Guardians," the game's Twitter handle replied.
In response to another fan's query about the outfits in the game, Marvel replied: "Yes, we've created a wide variety of in-game unlockable outfits inspired by the Guardians history - including some from the MCU!"
Marvel also revealed in another tweet the "team has worked on a whole bunch of in-game unlockable outfits inspired by 50 years of Guardians history."
This is not Marvel's first collaboration with Square Enix -- The duo had released "Marvel's Avengers" video game in 2020.
While some fans were excited about the Guardians game, many netizens shared their feedback regarding the animation of the game.
A user noted, "After massively failing with an avenger game not using motion capture from the official actors to rightfully portray the characters, you guys make the same huge mistake with this GOTG game.. Guess you'll never learn."
"After you failed with the Avengers game you still got the guts to make another sh-t Marvel game? this time only playing as 1 character...and they look like sh-t...who the heck is that big guy? that's not Drax.." another user wrote.
Releasing video games based on comics and movies isn't something new for Marvel. Last year, Marvel Games released "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales," "Marvel Realm of Champions," "Marvel's Iron Man VR," "Marvel Future Revolution," and "Marvel Duel" besides "Marvel's Avengers."
The movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is slated to release on May 23, 2023, and will be helmed by James Gunn.
