Gwen Stefani Explains What Made Her Fall For 'The Voice' Co-Star Blake Shelton
Not only did Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani find romance with each other following their respective divorces, but they’ve each got new albums on the horizon, inspired in large part by their recent ups and downs. Now, Stefani is finally revealing what exactly made her fall for her country-singing boyfriend in the first place.
Speaking to Refinery29 about the release of her coming album “This Is What The Truth Feels Like,” the 46-year-old mother of three explained that her feelings for Shelton came at a time in her life that was just too serendipitous to ignore.
“I think that when you go through what I went through, or what I’m still going through, you think you’re hopeless. You don’t know what’s going to happen. You panic," she said. "It was a really super-unexpected gift to find a friend, somebody who happened to be going through the exact same thing as me, literally mirroring my experience. I don’t think it’s an accident that that happened. It saved me.”
For those that are unfamiliar with Stefani’s boyfriend, he and his now ex-wife, Miranda Lambert, announced in July 2015 that they would be divorcing after four years together, according to the Associated Press. The news was highly publicized as Shelton continued his work on Season 9 of the NBC reality singing competition “The Voice.” In November, roughly five months after his divorce, E! Online reported that that the friendship had taken a turn toward the romantic.
At the time, Stefani was apparently struggling with her breakup from Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. She previously told USA Today that she felt like she was “literally dead” following the split. But it seems her new relationship with Shelton helped her find herself. Although she admits he helped get her life back on track, she stopped short of giving him credit for any of the songs on the album. In the same interview with Refinery29, the former “No Doubt” lead said that while Shelton influenced her writing process, her album is a deeply personal labor of love that’s only inspired by her emotions at the time of making it.
Stefani’s new album “This Is What The Truth Feels Like” drops March 18.
