The previous episode sees the conclusion of the second set as Inarizaki High welcome their leader – Shinsuke Kita.

He is known to be laser-focused on the court and his arrival improves the team's confidence. Moreover, after Ginjima scores a point and takes Inarizaki High's score to 23, Karasuno High suddenly feel under pressure.

It is likely due to Kita's play and how he is able to recalibrate his team's efforts. Coach Korosu observes that Kita may not be a star performer like Aran Ojiro or the Miya brothers, but players like him show up every once in a while.

With Kita on their side, Inarizaki High bag the second set and enter the third set with a winning high. However, toward the end of the episode, Kageyama rises again for his team after stopping Ojiro's shot and winning a point for Karasuno High.

Episode 20 ends with Karasuno High leading the early part of the third set. But they cannot let their guards down against Kita's team as Inarizaki High remain the ultimate challengers.
