'Half-Life: Alyx' Update: Game 'Done,' Devs Say

"Half-Life: Alyx” developers recently held a Reddit Ask-Me-Anything for those who are interested in the upcoming VR game and latest entry in the “Half-Life” franchise, and revealed a lot of things. Though the developers didn't reveal certain details about the game, they gave some interesting information that fans are sure to want.

Here are some of the things the Valve devs revealed about “Half-Life: Alyx” during the subreddit AMA.

“Half-Life: Alyx” is already done

The devs said the game is almost finished, and all that's left for them to do are some minor polishes.

“With the exception of some tweaks to the absolute final scene, the game is done. Lots of us at Valve, as well as playtesters, have played through the entire game multiple times,” the devs said. “Right now we're primarily polishing and fixing bugs, which is where we'd hope to be at this point in the development cycle. ”

The game will be released according to schedule

Following what the devs said above, they also said that they are “confident” that they will “hit” their intended release date. This, of course, is unknown at the moment.

The game is about the same size as “Half-Life 2”

“Half-Life: Alyx” contains about the same amount of content as “Half-Life 2.” The devs said playtesters who played “Half-Life: Alyx” finished the game in about the same amount of time they spent to finish the older title. The two games, the devs said, are “comparable” in terms of the amount of content they feature.

“Half-Life: Alyx” will feature Headcrabs

What's another “Half-Life” title without the notorious Headcrabs, right? Players who loved/hated Headcrabs in the earlier installments will encounter these four-legged parasitic creatures again, this time in VR. Tristan Reidford, one of the game developers, said these gory creatures are scary and he “cannot deal” with them. Players will love this.

The game will be subbed in other languages

The devs, asked if the game will be dubbed in other languages, said the game will be doing subtitles for a total of ten languages during launch. These languages are English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish-Latin America, Spanish-Spain and Traditional Chinese.
