Michael Myers is back and bigger than ever after the massive success of the 2018 “Halloween” reboot. Universal and Blumhouse aren’t prepared to let a good thing go just yet and announced at SDCC 2019 two sequels to the hit slasher set to release back-to-back: “Halloween Kills” in 2020, and “Halloween Ends.”

The former is of particular note for fans, as it rather bluntly announces the conclusion of the series...or just this cycle of films...or something. Certainly, this is a difficult notion to swallow as horror films, more than any other genre, are known for having immense amounts of sequels. Now, co-writer Danny McBride has cleared the air about whether or not “Halloween Ends” will in fact be the end of “Halloween.” Speaking at a get together for his upcoming HBO show, “The Righteous Gemstones,” McBride set the record straight, as reported by SlashFilm.

“I think no way and I wouldn’t want it [to end],” McBride said. “I feel like Michael Myers is such an iconic horror character, there’s a simplicity to why he’s scary that I think it will always be relevant for generations to come. I think we’re lucky enough to have a shot at it right now. I’m sure 10 years from now there’ll be another group of knuckleheads that think they have the answer to what they should do with Michael Myers next.”

McBride did confirm that it would be the last “Halloween” film he would be involved in. This could mean that director and co-writer David Gordon Green will also finish out his time with the franchise with “Halloween Ends.”

Universal and Blumhouse will release “Halloween Kills” on Oct. 16, 2020 and “Halloween Ends” on Oct. 15, 2021. Green will likely move on to direct a film about the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
