A hammer-wielding man attacked three employees inside a Brooklyn restaurant, New York, Tuesday night, killing one and critically injuring the other two. The suspect was taken into custody after police caught him near the restaurant.

The incident took place around 5 p.m. EST at the Seafood Buffet in Sheepshead Bay.

Police said the suspect entered the restaurant and struck three employees in the head with a hammer. All the three were rushed to Lutheran Hospital where a 34-year-old chef was declared dead. Two other employees, aged 60 and 50, remain in critical condition, CBS Local reported.

NBC New York reported the suspect first attacked the 60-year-old owner near the buffet before assaulting the other two employees at the back of the restaurant.

Samantha Randazzo, owner of a nearby Clambar, said a restaurant worker came running into her bar to warn them about the hammer-wielding man.

"A couple of people, customers from the restaurant, came in here, and we let them in and they said a guy came in crazy with a hammer and started hammering certain people, random people," said Randazzo, adding "The guy was just screaming crazy words, like 'I'm killing everybody, world is hell.'"

Employees at her Clambar then locked the door out of fear.

"We tried helping people who were trying to come in, customers, but we were scared to even walk out. We didn't know where he was,” she said.

Police said it was a random unprovoked attack and have recovered the hammer used in the attack. Police are questioning the 34-year-old attacker to determine a motive behind the assault. However, the charges he would face remain unknown.
