Is Hannah Baker Still Alive? ‘13 Reasons Why’ Fan Theory Hints At Character’s Fate In Netflix Series
“13 Reasons Why” was released four months ago, and the series instantly became a huge hit among viewers across the globe. The popularity of the Katherine Langford-starrer resulted in Netflix making a not-so-surprising decision to release a sequel in the coming months. But before the new episodes arrive, one new fan theory suggests that everything that happened in the first installment may have taken place in the future.
In one of the scenes in episode 13, the people mentioned in Hannah Baker’s (Langford) tapes were questioned by police officers. During Zach’s (Ross Butler) interview, the date stamp on the recorded file shows Nov. 10, 2017. Considering that there was a Halloween party in the series, it means that Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) listened to the tapes sometime in October.

Prior to receiving the tapes, Hannah has already committed suicide. This means that the lead character could’ve taken her life sometime in September or October. According to the fan theory, Hannah is technically still alive in the real world since it’s only July 2017. The flash forward may have just been a coincidence or it could also serve as a way for the creators of “13 Reasons Why” to send a message that Hannah’s death could still be stopped.
Meanwhile, since “13 Reasons Why” will have a sequel sometime soon, this theory may be addressed by the writers of the show. Previously, executive producer Selena Gomez confirmed that Hannah will still be featured in the upcoming 13 episodes. “In season two, we’re going to answer a lot of questions, and a lot of resolution with the characters is going to come. We go into the resolution of where these characters are going. I was freaking out about where they were going because it was really encouraging and empowering,” she said on the “Elvis Duran Show.”
The “13 Reasons Why” sequel will also continue to feature Christian Navarro as Tony, Brandon Flynn as Justin, Justin Prentice as Bryce, Alisha Boe as Jessica and more. Navarro recently shared a song he wrote and sang with singer Evangelia, which was inspired by his “13 Reasons Why” character, via his Instagram account.
