Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts are celebrating National Doughnut Day on Friday by giving out a free doughnut.

National Doughnut Day was established in 1938 by the Salvation Army to raise funds to help people in need.

It is a day to honor the donut’s place in America’s history and culture, and the happiness and fun donuts bring to people’s lives, Dunkin’ Donuts said in a statement.

Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all-day stop for coffee, donuts and baked goods, said its participating restaurants nationwide will offer guests a free donut of their choice (while supplies last) with the purchase of a beverage (excluding bottled cooler beverages).

But, Krispy Kreme is giving each guest who visits a participating U.S. Krispy Kreme shop on June 3 one free doughnut of any variety with no purchase required to redeem the offer.

In honor of National Doughnut Day, we're inviting doughnut fans to stop by a local Krispy Kreme shop for a complimentary doughnut. With several delicious, one-of-a-kind doughnuts to select from, including our signature Original Glazed, you can pick your favorite or discover a new preferred sweet treat for FREE, said Ron Rupocinski, corporate chef of Krispy Kreme.
